You’ve just had a baby! Yay! Congrats!! Surly the last thing you want to do is invite some stranger into your house to take photos? Right?? Well, I’m here to try and convince you otherwise 🙂 I get it – you’re exhausted. You’ve just spent months waiting and preparing for your little one to arrive, and now they’re here, it’s all systems GO! In fact, time’s going so quickly that it might just pass you by without you even realising it. This is why I think it’s so so SO important to immortalise this magical time in your life with a newborn photography session. They really wont stay this little for very long, so the sooner the better! (in my somewhat biased opinion…)
Getting out of the house with my 3 year old can be a challenge at times. I kind of get it – she obviously feels most comfortable at home, and all of her toys are here! Home is where we all tend to feel most comfortable, and it is therefore an ideal place to have your newborn photography session. You might be worried that your house isn’t clean enough/big enough/tidy enough etc, but honestly you shouldn’t let this put you off! What makes your home so special, is the people that live in it – your family. It’s all well and good going to a studio for your baby portraits, but does it really capture you and your baby in the most authentic way possible? I would argue not.
An in-home baby photography session also gives you more opportunity to include any sentimental items. This might include special toys or blankets – anything that makes the photos more personal to you and your baby. In general, having a newborn photography session at home ensures that everyone is relaxed and enjoys the session. If you’re nice and relaxed, your baby will be too!
The first thing to do here, is to think about your home. What colours are there in the nursery, living room, bedroom? You should look for outfits with colours and patterns that match your home. This is normally best achieved by picking neutral, earthy colours – think beige/browns/whites/dark blues. Try to avoid any bright and vivid colours as they can distract the eye. Instead, focus on harmony between you, your home and your baby. One of the most (if not THE most) important thing, is that you all feel comfortable. Wear clothes that make you feel good, that you enjoy wearing! Forcing yourself to wear clothes that just aren’t ‘you’ is never a good idea.
Oh, and avoid any clothing with writing on it please 🙂
Then get in touch! And let’s start planning your very own baby photography session 🙂
