If you're like me, you love your family more than anything, and you want to capture those feelings of love and joy that you have for each other. Well I'm here to help you with that! Since me and my wife had Evie a couple of years ago, our lives seem to have gone into hyperdrive, and in the blink of an eye she's already grown up so much. That's why I want to help you preserve those memories, so that you can cherish them for years to come.
As a Derbyshire Family Photographer, I would describe my style as a mix between candid and posed shots. Above all else, I want our session to be fun and relaxed, to ensure I capture those genuine moments of joy. We can go on a hike, play in the paddling pool, or really do whatever! No two sessions are ever the same, just as no two families are ever the same!
A Relaxed, Fun Photoshoot Tailored to You
I get it - not everyone likes having their picture taken. Honestly, even I would much rather be behind the camera than in front of it! This is why my main priority when doing a photoshoot is to make sure everyone feels relaxed and at ease in front of the camera. It isn't uncommon for my clients to mention that they occasionally forgot that the camera was even there!
I'll use gentle posing, while guiding you towards natural light that will give your pictures that lovely warm, natural glow. On the day of the shoot, we’ll take a relaxing walk around your chosen location, where we’ll be guaranteed to get some beautiful shots that you’ll love and treasure for years to come. All I want from you is to be yourselves, so I can capture you at your most comfortable and natural. We’ll go exploring, looking out for different animals and interesting locations, to make sure everyone has fun on the shoot. That’s my main goal - for everyone to enjoy themselves, I promise you you’ll be amazed with the results!
My background as a professional derbyshire family photographer
I have always had a fascination with cameras. The shelf next to me currently has 7 cameras on it, and not all of them digital. I have a couple of 'old' 35mm film cameras on there too that I still love to shoot with. Photography has been an all consuming passion of mine for over a decade, from tinkering with old film cameras in my youth, to learning advanced colour theory and composition. Over the years I have taken numerous workshops and courses to make sure the images I provide you with are the best that they can possibly be.
I'm so lucky that I get to live my dream job every single day, and I'm so excited to photograph you and your family!

We reached out to Matthew for a fairly last minute shoot with our new-born, to capture some lovely photos to be used as Christmas gifts. He was really accommodating and agreed to meet at our favourite woodland walk. Matthew was extremely responsive in the lead up to the day and was very chilled on the day itself - making us feel really at ease and comfortable throughout. We were seeking candid, natural shots, in the great outdoors, and he certainly delivered. We received our photos just a few days after meeting up and we absolutely love them. He has managed to capture some really joyous moments and we look forward to sharing them with our loved ones!

After having my son at the end of last year I knew I wanted to get a family picture to mark the occasion. I am so thankful I came across Matt on social media. I was drawn to his work as he captures beautiful candid family moments at a location of your choosing which was important to us as we wanted our dog (a very important family member) to be included. Booking matt was very simple, I originally chose Newstead Abbey as the location but we ended up at Elvaston Castle as Matt had been there recently and suggested it as it was lovely and it was. Myself and my husband who hates having his picture taken had a great time, the session was very relaxed and fun. The pictures are amazing and I can't wait to book matt again in the future. Matt was personable and friendly from the moment we met him. He sought to get to know us and chatted with our daughters to make them feel comfortable from the very start of the photoshoot. He found some beautiful areas of the woodlands for the pictures and worked his magic behind the camera with us barely noticing. He had good ideas for family shots and was open to our suggestions too. When the photos arrived it was clear he had caught our little family in their natural happy state. Their smiles shines out of all the pictures and we are really pleased with the end result.
