I first met Sam and Kez during their engagement shoot in the Peak District. At that point, they hadn’t yet chosen a wedding photographer, so it was such a wonderful surprise when, after seeing their engagement photos, they asked me to capture their summer wedding too. From the start, they knew exactly what they wanted: a relaxed, documentary-style approach, with the focus on telling the story of their day naturally as it unfolded. For me, that’s always the most meaningful way to capture a wedding — authentic, unscripted, and full of real emotion.
The day began at Kez’s home, where she and her bridesmaids were getting ready. I adore this part of a wedding. It’s the calm before the whirlwind, filled with anticipation, laughter, and just a few nerves. As always, I worked quietly in the background, capturing the little details and fleeting moments rather than staging anything. At one point, I even ended up helping to film a TikTok reel for the bride — a first for me, but so much fun!
Before long, it was time to head to the ceremony at Union Chapel in Bath. The service was made extra special by the fact that Sam’s father officiated. This definitely brought a beautiful personal touch to the day. Sam and Kez exchanged vows that were heartfelt and full of warmth, creating such a touching and intimate atmosphere. Afterwards, we stepped outside for a shower of petal confetti and the kind of joyful hugs and congratulations that are a dream to photograph.
From there, we made our way to the American Museum & Gardens for portraits. The gardens were breathtaking, with bursts of colour and texture everywhere. They made the perfect backdrop without needing anything staged or over-planned. Sam and Kez simply wandered through the space, soaking up the moment together, and I captured the magic as it happened. With soft light filtering through, every frame felt timeless.
Back at the reception, the energy shifted to full celebration mode. Guests were greeted with lively music, laughter — and plenty of pizza! As the sun dipped lower, the evening unfolded into a ceilidh, which brought everyone together in the most joyful way. Before the last light disappeared, we squeezed in a few final portraits of the couple, ending the day with that same natural magic that had been there from the start.
Then get in touch, and let’s start planning your perfect wedding day!
