Having a newborn can be a crazy, mad, joyous, rewarding, exhausting time… And everything in between! I recently had a client as me what the best time to have their in home newborn photoshoot was. Should they wait a few months until their baby was more aware? Or should they have them now while they’re still tiny? I’ll tell you what I told them!
Ok, so picture this – You’ve recently had a newborn. Your whole life has been turned upside down and sleeping through the night is a thing of the past. You’re settling into your new routine of feeding, nappy changes, poop explosions… the list goes on! You are SO busy, and a newborn photoshoot might be the last thing on your mind! However, it’s this exact reason that I believe it’s so important to have your newborn photoshoot at THIS time! I definitely have some amnesia around the first few months of my daughter’s life, and I think this can mostly be blamed on fatigue. As a result, photographs were one of the last things on my mind (which is unusual for me!). She was growing up so quickly, and before I knew it we were out of the newborn stage and suddenly I had a toddler! You will never regret having some beautiful newborn photographs of your tiny baby, from the period of their life that passes all too quickly.
Despite what I said above, there is never going to be a wrong time to photograph your baby. Every age has it’s own unique qualities. Tiny babies are always going to be adorable, but maybe you want your baby to be more aware during your photoshoot? In this case, it might be best to wait until they are several months old and they have started to smile and make more eye contact. Or maybe you want to have pictures of them walking and playing. In which case you might wait until a year or two to have your child photographed. It’s totally up to you – there is no wrong answer! 🙂
