For many couples, the idea of having professional photos taken on their wedding day can feel a little intimidating. You might be wondering: How do we pose? Where should we look? Will it feel awkward? One of the best ways to ease these nerves is with a winter engagement photoshoot. Not only does it give you some gentle posing practice ahead of the big day, but it’s also a wonderful opportunity for us to get to know each other. By the time your wedding arrives, you’ll feel much more comfortable and confident in front of the camera.
I recently had the pleasure of meeting Molly and Adam for their engagement session on a crisp winter morning. The frost from the night before still clung to the ground, casting a magical, almost ethereal glow over the landscape. We couldn’t have asked for better weather—it was truly picture-perfect.
Rather than focusing on stiff, posed shots, we simply enjoyed a relaxed stroll around a frozen lake, pausing here and there to take in the scenery. Of course, we captured a few traditional poses (you’ll spot some below!), but the real goal was helping Molly and Adam feel at ease, allowing their natural connection to shine through.
The mist in the air softened the light beautifully, wrapping everything in a dreamy atmosphere. One of the best things about winter photography is the angle of the sun—it stays low in the sky, creating a soft, flattering glow throughout the day. Using this to our advantage, we captured some breathtaking backlit portraits that highlighted the couple’s joy and warmth against the serene winter backdrop.
I can’t wait for Molly and Adam’s upcoming wedding at The Great Barn in Banbury!! They’re such a lovely couple and I just can’t wait to capture their big day 🙂
