One of the first things people often say to me when they find out I have a two year old daughter is 'Wow, you must have so many nice pictures of her!'. And it's true. I do! The only problem is, I'm not in any of them! That's the problem when you're the photographer in the family.
And this is where I'm here to help you. I want to help you capture your family in beautiful photographic images that you can treasure and cherish for years to come. I want to capture your family in the most authentic, genuine way possible. I want all the giggles, the laughter, all the little unique things that add up to make your family, well, your family!
We'll do some posed shots (to keep the grandparents happy!) but that's just the beginning. When you receive your bespoke family photographs, I want you to feel the love and bond that you all share through the images.

What to expect from my photography sessions
A unique session tailored to your family
No two photography sessions are the same, just as no two families are the same! This is why I approach each session in a completely unique way, adapting to you and your family so you can relax and enjoy the photoshoot.
Professional, timeless editing and re-touching
I like to keep my editing style as natural as possible. I find that editing in this way ensures that your photographs will stand the test of time.
A beautiful, curated private gallery
Roughly 2 weeks after your session, your images will be available for your to view in a bespoke, private gallery. From there, you can download your images in ultra-high definition.

So you've had a look around my website and decided that I'm the photographer for you? That's great! All you need to do now is fill in my contact form, giving me as much information as possible about the shoot (ideal location, number of people etc) so I can start putting the foundations of your family photoshoot together!
Once I've received this information, we can start looking at dates and times that suit everyone. Just remember, your date isn't secure until the cost of the session has been paid, and a signed contract returned.

I have some favourite locations that I'm always keen to recommend, however I'm always happy to accommodate any ideas for locations you might have. I can also help you with picking the best outfits for the type of session you have booked.

Let's start planning!
With all the prep out of the way, it's time for us to get out there and take some photos! You can relax on the day, knowing that all the details have been taken care of, and all that's left to do is enjoy your photoshoot!
I'll use gentle posing and guiding to get you into the best positions so you don't have to worry about any awkwardness! Once everyone gets relaxed and into the shoot, I might take a step back and capture some of the more candid style of photos that always look so natural; My main objective is for everyone to have fun!
Time to Shoot!
Ah the best bit! Roughly 2 weeks after your family photoshoot, I'll send the watermarked images over to you in a private gallery. Depending on which package you've selected, you can select a number of photos to purchase.
There's always the option to upgrade should you want to purchase more! Additional images can be purchased either individually, or you can get better value by upgrading to the next package.

We reached out to Matthew for a fairly last minute shoot with our new-born, to capture some lovely photos to be used as Christmas gifts. He was really accommodating and agreed to meet at our favourite woodland walk. Matthew was extremely responsive in the lead up to the day and was very chilled on the day itself - making us feel really at ease and comfortable throughout. We were seeking candid, natural shots, in the great outdoors, and he certainly delivered. We received our photos just a few days after meeting up and we absolutely love them. He has managed to capture some really joyous moments and we look forward to sharing them with our loved ones!

We booked Matthew for a family shoot at one of our favourite woodlands. We'd not long had a baby and had tried a staged studio shoot (with another company) and whilst we loved them (because they had our daughter in) they didn't reflect us or capture her cheekiness and we felt very awkward posing. Matthew made us feel so comfortable and relaxed right from the start. He managed to capture some beautiful photos of us all without them feeling forced or posed. He's also managed to capture our daughters personality beautifully.

After having my son at the end of last year I knew I wanted to get a family picture to mark the occasion. I am so thankful I came across Matt on social media. I was drawn to his work as he captures beautiful candid family moments at a location of your choosing which was important to us as we wanted our dog (a very important family member) to be included. Booking matt was very simple, I originally chose Newstead Abbey as the location but we ended up at Elvaston Castle as Matt had been there recently and suggested it as it was lovely and it was. FAQs
Here in the East Midlands, we really are spoilt for choice when it comes to photoshoot locations. I tend to suggest woodland or parks for my shoots, as these areas give a lovely, natural feel to the photos. I’m always open to suggestions though, so if you have somewhere in mind please let me know! Certain locations work better at different times of the year, so this is something I always factor into my decision making. Some of my favourite locations include Wollaton Park, Highfields Park, and Rufford Park.
I am willing to travel within 20 miles of my home town Belper, Derbyshire. Locations further away than this will be charged an additional £1 per mile.
It takes me roughly 2 weeks to go through and edit your images. This may seem like quite a wait, but I often have to sort through at least 500 photos from the session! I also like to take my time with editing and making sure everything is perfect so the image that gets delivered to you is the best that it can be! Once your private gallery is ready, you will have the opportunity to select the images you wish to purchase.
No two children are the same. As the father of a 2 year old girl, I know that children can sometimes take a while to warm up and relax. A photoshoot can be a bit of a daunting experience for them (and the adults!), which is one reason I never rush my photoshoots. I always try and make the sessions fun, with the end result being natural, un-posed photos of your children just being themselves! Trust me, these are the shots you will always treasure.
I often leave the decision on whether to go ahead with the shoot up to my clients. I don’t mind a bit of rain, and kids jumping in puddles always makes great shots! However if you decide that you would rather reschedule, this is absolutely fine with me! All that I ask is that we wait until the day to see what the weather is like, as in my experience the forecast is often wrong…
